Craniofacial Pain Procedures
Microvascular Decompression
About This Treatment
This procedure is used to treat trigeminal neuralgia and involves placing a specialised sponge between the trigeminal nerve and the artery that is causing the nerve compression. The sponge isolates the nerve from the pulsation of the vessel which stops the pain signals from being triggered. Microvascular decompression is performed as a day procedure so patients can generally go home that day.
